Riding Clinic with Pierre Cousyn
July 16, 2011
Five horse
and rider pairs, as well as 35 spectators, enjoyed the recent CFD clinic
at Wind Song Farms with Pierre Cousyn. Pierre holds degrees in both Moniteur
and Instructeur from the prestigious National Equitation School in Saumur,
France. Everyone responded to Pierres warm, friendly style and mixture
of modern and classical techniques.
The clinic participants were:
Mary Robinson
& Cavan
Charity Messer & Blue Eyed Dream
Missy Ascik & Haily By Titan
Anna Bergholtz & MG Alvnc
Katie Freeman & Symphony
Pierre tailored his teaching to the individual pair and assisted them by often
emphasizing foundation principles.
His calm manner of dealing with issues was very positive for the horses. He
gave everyone great exercises and tools for further progress.
The spectators enjoyed watching and learning from Pierre.'s It was fun to see the horses and riders improve from the start of their riding session through to the end.
Missy Ascik, one participant said I had a great time at the clinic. It was the first time off property "all by ourselves" for me and Soleil. She just turned 4 in May and has only been under saddle for a couple of months so I didn't have high expectations. I was just taking her more for the travel experience, but Pierre taught me some really great exercises. Obviously, we just worked on basics. He helped me use my body more than my hands to down transition from trot to walk, encouraging Soleil to carry herself and listen to my seat with a light soft connection. We even did a little canter work. I've been using the exercises at home and we are really coming along nicely.
This day
was also CFD's summer social luncheon and our CFD officer
elections in the Windsong Mane hall. We had 40 people for the social and
it was fun seeing lots of familiar faces come out to visit and vote. See
photos in this article of that event.
Many thanks
to all the individuals who brought food and desserts for our
potluck lunch. Lunch was made extra special due to creative participants
who made cup cakes with CFD's initial sand little blue, red, and yellow
ribbons. It was so festive! Thank you.

A very
special thanks to WindSong Farms and Lori Wubker for letting CFD
have our clinic and lunchtime social at their location.
