November 6, 2011 CFD hosted a day of entertainment and dressage education for the community at our 2011 Fabulous Freestyle Fundraiser at the Silver Sands Arena in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. http://www.silversands.org/

The program consists of local amateur and professional dressage riders performing costumed dressage Musical Freestyles. Spectators paid admission and a portion of the funds went towards our benefit organization Freedom Ride of Central Florida.

This year, we were proud to announce after expenses this program raised $1800 for Freedom Ride in admission ticket, raffle sales, and a donation from Freedom Ride, Below is a photo of Silver Sands President, Danny Graves presenting a check to Freedom Ride of Central Florida. Both CFD and Freedom Ride sincerely appreciate Silver Sands generosity and their support of this event.




We had an amazing response from the dressage community this year - 27 acts with 39 horse and rider pairs performing Dressage Musical Freestyles, Deuxs, and Quadrilles from Training level to Grand Prix. We were also thrilled to have Crooked Creek Vaulting Team finish our program with a musical vaulting exhibition. Freedom Ride also participated with four musical routines. Everyone did a great job, the costumes and musical selections were all creative and enjoyable to watch and to listen to.

It was truly hard to tell who was having more fun, the spectators or the riders. There were ear to ear smiles all around, energy was high, and the audience showed their approval with applause both during the rides as well as after each performance.

An addition to this year's program, Matt McLaughlin Dressage and CFD provided a lunch break educational demonstration called 'Dressage through the Levels'. Our three demo horse and rider combinations were:

This group of riders performed all the dressage movements and requirements for each dressage level from Intro Level through Grand Prix. Spectators new to Dressage got a glimpse into what each movement was called and what it looked like. Matt McLaughlin and Lori Beggs traded off on the FEI movements and then did them as tandom wowing the crowd with their tempi changes and extended trot work.

This annual event is much anticipated and a highlight of the CFD year. It's a very special day, and we think unique in the horse world to bring a large group of horse people together not in competition or to do a clinic, but just for the fun of performing, the love of music and of the horse.
